Vetinwild was honoured to be hosted by Lancet Kenya on 9 December at their Laboratory in Nairobi, Kenya.
Veterinarians Dr. Stephen Chege and Dr. Jessicah Kurere of Vetinwild were well-received by Lancet Kenya’s Dr. Dhaval.
One of the challenges we face as veterinarians working in the remote regions of Kenya is a lack of diagnostic capacity to confirm a diagnosis yet a correct diagnosis saves not only cost but time. Dr. Chege
During the visit, Vetinwild was able to share more about the impact of access to reliable diagnosis services has on our work, mainly around:
Responding to injured and distressed wildlife;
Supporting communities who live at the intersection of the human-livestock-wildlife interface;
Conducting regular vaccination of domestic animals at the community level to prevent zoonotic disease outbreaks, which can spread fast and be fatal to wild species, domestic animals and even the community.
Lancet Kenya’s Dr. Dhaval generously shared his extensive knowledge of laboratory diagnosis and the common small animal (dogs and cats) problems in Kenya.
It was a privilege to shine a light on the work we do, the issues we face and start the conversation on how improved access to laboratory diagnosis is key in supplementing clinical diagnosis for improved treatment and recovery.
